Seminarium „Irańska rewolucja konstytucyjna 1905-1911: konteksty, narracje, implikacje”

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW]

Serdecznie zapraszamy do udziału w seminarium „Irańska rewolucja konstytucyjna 1905-1911: konteksty, narracje, implikacje”.

W tym roku przypada 115 rocznica wydarzeń stanowiących punkty zwrotne w historii politycznej i społecznej Iranu: ogłoszenia pierwszych wyborów do Madżlesu (parlamentu) i uchwalenia pierwszej irańskiej konstytucji.

– Transfer idei w świecie irańskim, do świata irańskiego i poza świat irański,
– Rewolucja konstytucyjna w Iranie a ruchy rewolucyjne w XIX-XX w. na świecie,
– Historia myśli politycznej i prawnej w Iranie i w świecie irańskim; historia prawa w Iranie w XIX-XX w.,
– Historiografia w języku perskim i historiografia ruchów rewolucyjnych,
– Obywatelskość, narodowość, etniczność, mniejszości,
– Genderowa historia idei: męskość i kobiecość a dyskurs nowoczesności; feminizm a nacjonalizm,
– Rewolucja i nowoczesność a literatura i sztuka.

Informacja o przyjęciu referatu zostanie przesłana w terminie do 7 listopada 2021.

Nie przewidujemy opłaty konferencyjnej. Nie pokrywamy kosztów dojazdu i noclegu.

We kindly invite you to participate in the conference „The Iranian Constitutional Revolution 1905-1911: Contexts, Narratives, Implications”.

This year marks the 115th anniversary of the turning points in Iran’s political and social history: the announcement of the first Majles (parliamentary) elections and the adoption of Iran’s first constitution. In traditional historiography, these events – along with the protests of 1905, the coup of 1908, the battles for Tabriz in 1908-1909, the capture of Tehran by constitutional forces in 1909, and finally the fall of the second parliament in 1911 – marked the timeline of the various stages of change in late Qajar Iran.

The seminar „The Iranian Constitutional Revolution 1905-1911: Contexts, Narratives, Implications” treats the aforementioned anniversaries as a starting point for broader reflections. We do not want to be limited by the rigid divisions of academic disciplines, and we treat the dates and boundaries on the map as clues and stimuli for multithreaded, interdisciplinary analysis. Examples of groups of issues that we would like to address during the seminar are:

– The transfer of ideas within the Iranian world, into the Iranian world and beyond the Iranian world;
– The constitutional revolution in Iran as compared to revolutionary movements in the 19th-20th century world;
– History of political and legal thought in Iran and the Iranian world;
– Historiography in Persian and historiography of revolutionary movements;
– Citizenship, nationality, ethnicity, minorities;
– Gendered history of ideas: masculinity and femininity and the discourse of modernity; feminism and nationalism;
– Literature and art as the mirror of revolution and modernity.

The main language of the seminar is Polish, but you are welcome to deliver your speech in English or Persian. In the case of Persian, please provide a translation of the whole speech or its summary in the form of a synopsis/handout/ PowerPoint presentation in Polish or English.

The length of the presentation should not be shorter than 15 minutes and longer than 30 minutes.

The basic form of participation in the seminar will be a personal presentation of the paper, however, online participation via Zoom will also be acceptable.

Please send abstracts of presentations (up to 250 words) to: seminarium1906.2021@gmail.com by 15 October 2021. You will be notified of the acceptance of your paper by 7 November 2021.
We do not plan a conference fee. We do not cover travel and accommodation costs.
